Migrating Outlook Express Contacts and Emails from Old pc notebook to new pc notebook's Windows mail
by Mitch Shapiro » Thu, 14 Feb 2008 15:09:00 GMT
Yesterday, I bought a new HP laptop with Windows Vista preloaded. I could
not upload my contacts and emails from the Outlook Express folder of my old
harddrive (from my former laptop) which ran on the Windows XP operating
system ot Windows Mail. Is there a way to do this? If so, do tell.

If you used Outlook Express on the old computer, see

MAIL BOXES
1. Go to Outlook Express > Tools > Maintenance Tab > Store Folder.
2. Make a note of its location and navigate to it. If you haven't moved it,
it's here C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{long name}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. You may have to show
'hidden' files in Folder Options.
3. Copy the whole folder to an external source. You can omit any files you
don want, i.e. you probably only want Inbox and Sent Items. Remove any
ead onlyattributes.
4. In Windows Mail go to File>> Import>> Messages>> OE6>> Next>> Import Mail
and follow the wizard to import your mail boxes from the exported folder you
made earlier.
5. Once these are imported, a sub-folder named Imported Folder is created
for each one imported. Go to it and drag the messages to the proper boxes.
As an alternative to 2 above, you could move the mail boxes to an easier to
get at location, i.e. Open My Documents and create a folder named Mail Boxes.
Now go to OE>> Tools>> Maintenance Tab>> Store Folder>> Change and type the
location of the new folder, e.g. My Docs\Mail Boxes. Close Outlook Express.
The store location is now easier to navigate to and it isn hidden.
ADDRESS BOOK/CONTACTS
1. Go to Outlook Express>> File>> Export>> Address Book and select Comma
Separated Values (CSV)>> Export, select the fields you want or, for more
safety, select all the fields and save it to an external device.
2. In Windows Mail go to File>> Import>> Windows Contacts, select CSV>>
Import and browse to the file you exported from OE.

2.Migrating Outlook Express 6 on old PC to Microsoft Mail on new PC
Others have asked about migrating from OE6 to Mail, but the answers given in
Help and here assume that Outlook Express is on the same PC. I am trying to
get my files that are in OE6 on an old XP PC to Mail on the new Vista PC. I
have a data transfer cable that I have used for all my other data, but can
not find the right files to transfer. I was able to get the contacts over,
but not messages. I can find the dbx files on the old PC, but Mail does not
want to import them. Does anyone have the steps for getting all my folders
and messages over?
