HTTP mail still works in Vista with Outlook 2003.

It sounds like you have Secure Password Authentification turned on which you don't want. Under Tools in Outllook click on E-mail accounts and then "view or change existing e-mail account". click next, select the account from the box and then click Change. Make sure that the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentification" is unchecked. Ted
Don't think any of the replies so far got to the bottom of the problem. I have the exact same problem and have so far not found any solution First. msn.com is a old fashioned pop3 based mail not an http, so suggesting using an http link to the pop3 server does not work. Second. Secure password Authentication is needed for msn.com. At least in win XP and all previous win incarnations, so turning SPA off will not help. As a matter of fact if you do, you will get a different error saying "your email adress is incorrect". Have also tried to turn off all anti-spam and email virus checking to no avail. msn tech service will not and does not have an answer since this is a Vista problem only. TT
Same here. I have an old msn.com POP3 email account that requires SPA and have not been able to get it to work in Vista. If works fine in two other XP Pro computers with OE express. I have not been able to resolve this issue. dotcom
Thanks-I learned something. I've only helped my Cosuin configure her new account which is HTTP. Never knew the older ones were POP. Ted
You may need to be a paid subscriber to access the http hotmail account via Outlook. http://www.**--****.com/ "Outlook 2003 not recognizing password" <Outlook 2003 not recognizing
I have the same issue and I am a paid member. Wish somebody form Microsoft would pop in on this one and say one way or the other if it will ever work

I had the same problem. Outlook 2003 works fine on my XP computer but not on my new Vista computer. After talking with Qwest and then Microsoft tech support we finally figured out that if you download and install Outlook Connector you can use Outlook 2003 to send/receive email from MSN on a Vista computer. -- jpchelp
1.Login Randomly Rejects Passwords/assigns Password to non-password
After a period of inactivity Windows XP Professional goes to the login page. Occasionally it will not accept the password to login to "passworded acccount" and asks for a password for non-passworded accounts. I have to restart the computer to login again. The computer is 1 year old and this has happened three or four times in the last few months. It is a nuisance now, but I fear it will get worse. Any ideas? -- ...
2.login error...server rejected login
i have outlook 2002 with SP I, i am running it with XP. No firewalls are active (i have checked everywhere i know). i have used outlook for 2 months with no problems, now when ever it does a send recieve, i get a login err 0 x 800ccc92. it says server rejected login. this must be a problem with my computer (actually it is occuring the same on both my computers). i have double checked the login name and password, removed all virus scanning, scanned for viruses, checked with the server company...they have no problems. and it is happening with all my email accounts (on different servers). i also deleted all accounts and reinstalled them...still same problem. this is driving me nuts...i would really appreciate any help!!!!! TIA
3.How secure is Hotmail login from Outlook 2003?
Does anyone know if Outlook 2003 encrypts Username and Password when it connects to Hotmail? (or are the Username and Password "in the clear"?) I am concerned about exposing username and password when connecting from a Wifi Hotspot. When accessing Hotmail from a browser, the browser opens an SSL connection during login, but I don't know whether that's also true when Outlook 2003 logs into Hotmail. Thanks for your help, Hugo
4.Is Hotmail login from Outlook 2003 secure?
Does Outlook 2003 encrypt Username and Password when it connects to Hotmail or are the Username and Password "in the clear"? I am concerned about the security risk of exposing username and password when connecting from a Wifi Hotspot. When accessing Hotmail from a browser, there is an SSL connection during login, but I don't know whether that's also true when Outlook 2003 connects to Hotmail. There is also the question of whether inbound and outbound emails themselves are encrypted between Outlook client and Hotmail's servers. I'm interested in that too, but my primary concern is the encryption of Username and Password during login. Thanks for your help, Hugo
5.Login Randomly Rejects Passwords/assigns Password to non-passw
Thank you for the quick response. It happens occasionally. The only common circumstance that I see as a clue is that all three of our accounts are logged in and we have simply "switched" accounts without logging out. Only one of the accounts has a password, yet when this happens Windows asks for a password for any of the accounts, but won't accept the correct password for the one account that needs it. I have not used the manual lock. -- ...
