I had a windows xp media center ed. 2005 with an external satellite decoder connected throught Svideo. Media center 2005 had a wizard that ask you about if you have an external decoder to watch TV, in this case the computer ask you about the connection to capture the video. Now with windows vista there is no wizard that ask you that and i need to connect the decoder that way. Thank you in advance

Ciao, Claudio
  • 3. Playing backed up DVDs with Media Center
I upgraded to Vista Premium from XP Pro and this is my first experience with Media Center. I have a number of my DVD movies backed up to my hard drive and have always played them through Media Player. I can still do that, however, I would like to be able to play them through Media Center. Here is my problem. MC has found all of my movies, and shows me them all in folders in the video library. When I open a folder I see the audio_ts and video_ts subfolders. When I go into the video_ts folder, however, it tells me "No videos were found. Either there are no videos or you are viewing an empty folder." But I'm not - the files are there. I have used a couple of different programs to back up my movies, most recently DVD Shrink. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Is it possbile to use a laptop as an extender?

Postby RGFuNDE4Njc » Fri, 06 Apr 2007 02:56:08 GMT

I have a TV tuner hooked up to my desktop and was wondering if it is possible
to set up my laptop which is also running Vista to watch live TV. I have
Vista Ultimate on my desktop and Windows Premium on my laptop. The desktop
and laptop are connected via wireless network.

As of yet there is no way to do this with Media Center. A lot of people
have asked for a software extender, so hopefully Microsoft will get the
message.

You can do this now with the free Orb service, from www.orb.com.

1.Using a MediaCenter Laptop like an extender???

I have purchased a Dell Laptop equipped with MediaCenter 2005 and my
main PC is also a MediaCenter PC. I have a wireless network and a
Linksys Extender as well as the Xbox Extender.

My question is this: Will I be able to watch live TV on the MC Laptop
across my wireless network from my Main PC without having to hook my
Cable TV coax into the laptop?

I am not concerned right now with being able to change channels, just
find the channel on my main PC's Media Center, start it up, and be able
to watch it across the network on the Laptop. Can this be done? Sort
of like using the laptop as an extender?

2.Using a laptop as a Media Center Extender?

I bought a HP notebook with MCE2005 and thought I could use it as a
extender. Am I mistaken? I can access my recorded tv, but there is
no option in the Media Center menu for live TV to look at the guide,
schedule a recording etc. My Linksys unit accesses my MCE PC through
the network, and so does Xbox. Do I need a TV tuner even though I'm
connecting through my home network and not from a cable box?

3.My Sony Vaio laptop speakers are always on even when I am using earphones

Hi,

I am using Sony Vaio CR VGN12GH and I had recently removed Vista and
loaded XP.
It was working fine for sometime , when suddenly the laptop speakers
started to be on always even when I had plugged in my earphones. This
is very irritating and I don't know what to do as the laptop is very
cool and has no other probs at all.

Please let me know as to how I can solve this problem.

4.Using files off a file server using MCE and MCE extender (xbox

5.Using files off a file server using MCE and MCE extender (xbox360)

Hey all,

I currently have one system configured as a file server. This holds my media
(like music and images). I would like to add an MCE to my environment, that
uses this file server for storage. So far no problems. But then I want to use
an extender of that MCE (xbox360) to play media that is located physically on
the file server through the MCE host. Is this possible? I can only see local
directories of the main MCE from the Extender.

Thanks!
