  • 1. Vista 64 Media Center not displaying video files
This was a stupid problem, but I figured it out, despite the lack of documentation on the entire internet. Well at least in the first 20 results in google no matter what I tried! I had lots of media files buried in a custom named shared folder like this: 'c:\Media\Movies' & 'c:\Media\Music' I shared "C:\ (and subfolders)" In Media Center. My music would appear in the music library, but none of the videos were appearing and the folder was not even appearing. SOLUTION: I STOPPED file sharing through media center, I added only "C:\Media" and It works perfectly! -Andy -- jahallah
  • 2. Windows Media Player 11 suddenly going haywire?
In fact, it's not just that. Nothing will play mp3 or ANYTHING ANYMORE. It worked just fine this morning and I got home today and went to play a song on Windows Media Player, and it keeps telling me that I can't play the file! I tried re-installing an mp3 codec, thinking that it got corrupted somehow, but it screwed things up even more! It won't even let me play things on YOUTUBE. Please help! My music is my LIFE, and I don't have an mp3 player, so this is my only chance here... -- Spiritshipping

Do I need all these? Are they not pretty much the same thing? Using Vista,
which one should I keep?

Thanks

You don't have Quicktime?

If you install Nero, you get Showtime.
Oddly it works with some files (both will play the file type) *Better*
than WMP.

2.Playing Windows Media Player 9 content with anything but Windows Media Player 9

I am using Windows 98 Second Edition with Windows Media Player version
7.00.00.1956 on a Pentium III 500 mhz machine with 128 MB of RAM. I
have read so many horror stories about using Windows media player 9
that I am hesitant to upgrade. My only issue is that increasingly I
run ito content that "requires windows media player 9 particularly
.wmv files. Does anyone know of any alternative for viewing this
content?

3.how to encode with media player 9 toplay on older player

HI! I am having a problem, I downloaded media encoder 9 I
am putting my pastor's sermons on our web page, I need to
encode it at 4 bits, (that makes a 40min sermon less than
2megs) but when I do that it will not play on older
versions of media player, but if I encode it at a higher
like 64bit it will play fine. I am new at encoding but if
anyone can help please do don't know if I am missing a
setting or what? BTW is there a way to get .wma files to
play on Netscape? I am trying to make my page easy for
people and I don't want older people to not listen to the
sermon if they are asked to upgrade....

Thanks,
Daryl

5.Setting Windows Media Player as default player for WMV

How to I set Windows Media Player as my default player for WMV files on my
Mac running Panther? When I download wmv files they automatically open in
VLC, which often won't play them properly. I can't find any preferences or
settings in either WMP or VLC which allows me to set defaults for certain
file types... am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks!
