  • 3. Intel Chipset update messes up Media Player
Hello I updated the Intel chipset driver on my HP Pavilion laptop this morning (Mobile Express 965 family) to 7.14.10.350 and this has messed up media playback of streaming video. Particularily if it scaled , if I don't scale the video it is okay...Local AVI's seem okay. I tried to rollback to a prior restore point but it didn't work. I got "unspecified error" each time I tried. This worked fine prior to this update....such a bummer. I'm in such a habit of just clicking yes to this update thingi that I should have known better. Any ideas if there is a registry setting that perhaps needs updating for this update? I could not find the control panel applet for media player...I could not find info on this problem on Intel's website. Help. Thanks. S.
  • 4. Unable to see shared content with WMP11/Vista
I am using Vista32 and WMP11. I have a Linux server with a working Samba share the I have no problem reading writing to from this PC. WMP11 can import the content stored on this server and it plays without issue locally on this Vista PC. However, I cannot seem to allow the shared content to be seen on UPnP/DLNA devices in the network. The only thing these UPnP devices see is what is local to the PC, nothing on the server. I have media sharing setup, the correct shares added to the "monitor" list, but no joy. Is this possible? If so, what I am I missing? TIA.

Anyone know where I can get a codec that will play MP4 video on Vista? When
I try to play it in WMP, I get the error that there is no codec, and in
searching Microsoft's site, it appears this is by design. The funny thing
is that the WMP version for the Pocket PC plays this format fine.

The following free Multimedia soft will do the job:
Vlc (www.videolan.org/vlc/), Quicktime, old version of WMP (6.4)

Any advice on how to convert MP4 h.264 videos to WMV format? I've
tried using Mp4Cam2AVI.exe to convert them to AVI format first, but
the tool complains and the video is garbled (audio is OK).
