  • 1. Watching ripped DVD's in Vista Ultimate: How do I do it?
Hello. I recently upgraded to Vista Ultimate from XP Pro. I'm using WMC for the first time after having my HTPC all set up using Media Portal. In Media Portal, I accessed my ripped DVD's (.iso files) and using an Intervideo codec I was able to watch the movie. When installing Vista it forced me to remove Daemon Tools, which Media Portal used to mount my .iso files to make them playable (at least that's how I understand it, either way it worked fine whatever it was doing...). When I ran WMC for the first time it scanned my hdd for media and when I looked under "TV-Movies" it showed zero movies. So I'm guessing Vista does not play iso image files? I can play a dvd from the drive fine in Vista, but how can I have Vista play the movies I have ripped and saved onto my harddrive? Is there an online guide for how to configure and use WMC? Thanks for any help you can provide!
  • 2. Defining Chapters in Movie Maker
In more sophistated software, one apparently can define Chapters in video production, or scene selection defined as titled chapters or scenes. Instead of Movie Maker defining scenes in the DVD made from Movie Maker, is there any way that this can be done in the video editing, i.e., define scenes and titles applied to the scenes, such that a menu is shown at the beginning of the DVD? Thanks for any guidance. Will

Why does auto adjustment pop up on my screen the whole time? Goes from 0% - 100% then disappears and pops up again and so on. Would appreciate if anyone of you could help me with this.
  • 4. MP4 files: Import & Play in WMP11 & VMC ??
I have installed the Haali splitter & ffdshow support and made registry entries to allow MP4 video files to play in WMP11 & Vista Media Center (VMC). This works OK. However I have two annoying problems: 1. VMC & WMP11 both extract video previews that are mostly just black screen images, I presume because the first frame happens to be a black screen. This is not very useful - can I force the extraction of an preview thumbail from further into the file (say Frame 100)? 2. On one PC these MP4 files are being imported by WMP11 into its library under the "Video" section which is what I want. However on a second PC WMP11 is importing the same files into the "Other Media" section of the library. This is very frustrating because I can't see why the two PC's are different. What section in the Registry defines how & where media files are imported into the WMP11 library? Thanks NigelS
  • 5. Can I edit .AVI film clips?
I used my Fujifilm digital camera to record 3 brief film clips. DSCF8371.AVI is 15 seconds long. When I double click on it, it plays with Windows Media Player, including sound. I want to clip off the last 10 seconds, so I can email a shorter clip to my relatives. Can I do this somehow? I have Vista Home Premium. If possible, I'd like to concatenate two other 1 second clips to the front of the 5 second film clip. How? TIA, Paul

How to convert WMA to MP3
 http://www.**--****.com/

Windows Media series includes formats like WMA (Windows Media Audio),
WMV (Windows Media Video) and ASF (Advanced Systems Format).

What's the difference between the ASF, WMV and WMA?
ASF could contain audio only or both audio and video stream. It could
be encoded by a variety of different codecs just like an AVI file.
WMV contains both audio and video compressed with the Windows Media
Audio and Video codecs.
WMA contains audio compressed with one of the Windows Media Audio
codecs.

If you have lots of music in WMA (Windows Media Audio) format (e.g. a
ton of CDs that you've ripped with Windows Media Player, they are
always saved as WMA) but your MP3 player works with MP3 only, or
certain corrupted WMA files causes seeking problem, you will need to
convert WMA files to MP3.

Eufony supports WMA files with sampling rates as below:
8000hz, 11025hz, 16000hz, 22025hz, 32000hz, 44100hz, 48000hz

Follow the steps below to convert WMA files to MP3. Please be aware
Eufony cannot convert DRM protected WMA files.

I use the free Format Factory for all types of conversions (Audio and
Video). It does a great job and is very easy to use. 'Format Factory -

Please help.

If you know anything at all related to this problem, please post. No
information is too little.

Application(s):
Windows Media Player 10 (10.00.00.3646)
Plus! Digital Media Edition: Audio Converter
plusdme_audioconverter_update1.exe

Problem: I have seen many posts about this, but no resolution. The problem
involves trying to convert Windows WMA files to Mp3, using the Windows Media
Player 10 and Plus! Digital Media Edition: Audio Converter.

Microsoft has issued a atch(plusdme_audioconverter_update1.exe
) but it does not work on this PC.

I have installed the same application combination on a different PC, and the
patch works fine.

On the working PC the Audio Converter lists an available utput file
formatas mp3 as it should.

On the non-working PC, the Audio Converter lists an available utput file
formatas MPEG Layer-3.

The PC that lists MPEG Layer-3 will not convert to mp3; and mp3 is not
listed as an option to choose hence I cannot convert WMA to mp3.

Why does one install of the Audio Converter list MPEG Layer-3 and the other
install lists mp3?

Please help! I am really frustrated by this problem.

Thank you,
Sid
