why am I receiving this error

Windows XP

  • 1. chkdsk in XP
My system says I have hard drive errors. I try to run chkdsk but it won't run, even after re-boot or shutdown. Can't run it from a DOS box and use any of the switches. This is a known XP problem (knowledge base #823439) But Microsoft shows no solution. Is there a workaround or another disk utility program I can use to fix the hard disk errors

My computer started to respond really slowly last week. Have tried clearing temp files and cookies.Have downloaded and scanned for viruses. Now I am loosing my icons on the task bar even though I have it set to be visable at all times. I am also having trouble openong programs from my desktop icons. I have to go in to my start menu.
  • 4. Data.Cab
When installing Easy CD Creator 5 Basic by Roxio that came with my Gateway computer (CD Burner), it gets halfway through the installation before saying "Error 1311.Source fiel not sound: D:/Data.Cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." I opened up the D Drive from My Computer and Data.Cab was right there. I was able to open it and browse around. It seemed like everything was there, I didn't touch any files. I clicked retry and the same error came up. How can I fix this? Please help. Jaguar Hahn

When I try to open outlook express,,,I get this error message....none of my
emails will download,,,yet I go to my earthlink web site and I get my emails
from there....

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for

If you've had it working in the past but this just started happening, it may
well be a server problem as the message states. All you can do under those
circumstances is wait it out. If you are able to get your mail from the web
server, that doesn't preclude problems with the pop3 server. They get the
same messages mirrored to each other but they function independently of each

If you've never been able to get your e-mail through Outlook Express, that's
a mail setup issue and you'll have to contact Earthlink or check their
website to be sure your account is properly set up in Outlook Express.
