  • 3. winlogin.exe
This happened to a computer at work running Windows 2000, it's a government computer and we use Tivoli to push system updates over the network and apparently it was because the system froze in the middle of a Service Pack 3 update, the computer won't even boot now. For my situation there's supposed to be a fix, by downloading and putting a patch on floppies (another patch to fix a patch), I'm going to try it today. The service pack 3 was a security patch to protect against Blaster, don't know how this relates to your problem but I saw your post so I thought I would mention it. Turning off sound when loging on & off

Postby bm9ydGh0b2FsYXNrYTA1 » Fri, 28 Jul 2006 16:33:01 GMT

I know how to mute sounds permanantly until i unmute them. How do I mute the
sounds when I turn my computer on and off, regardless of what the other sound
options are? I know what I mean but I'm not sure if I'm saying it right.
Thanks for any help

those are your sound choices, select none to have no sound for the events you
want quiet, or mute all sounds at the volume control if it's on your task
bar, if it isn't go to control panel sounds and put it there

In the "Sounds" (Control Panel) options, choose "no sound" for those events.

I've had this (Asus) system running with XP SP1 for quite a while. A

No flags under Dev Mgr->View->Show Hidden. I don't have any obvious
options under Power Management.
