  • 1. Logical Drive
Hello. I want to create a logical hard drive using my WD 120 GB (actually 111GB) hard drive. I'm having trouble doing it through the Windows interface and using a command line(MSDOS). When I go into Disk/Computer Management, it does not show any free space available under drive C to create a logical drive. I've used 41.9 GB and have 69.8 GB left. It's too complicated to explain my problems in the MSDOS DISKPART, so if anyone can help me with the Windows interface method, that would be great. Thanks.
  • 2. Network Location Awareness Service
I have a conflift between the NLA service and Norton Internet Security. If I disable NLA norton loads. If I enable NLA during boot up I get error message 'Error. Cannot connect to file system. Service not running' I have spent a couple of weeks back and forth with Symantec to no avail. They suggest that I change the load order of the NLA service. 2 Questions. 1.- do I need to run the NLA Service (it is on a laptop which is either networked via cable or wireless to a pc at home dependant on where I feel like working and connecting to the internet or sometimes used to connect independantly to the internet at other locations) 2.- how do I alter the load order of NLA Hope someone can help. Symantec don't seem to be able to. Peter.

Media Player 11 0x8007042b

I have a fresh install of windows XP and have downloaded all the critical
updates with no errors. Also installed IE7 and everything is working fine.

I come to update Media Player 11 and i get the download from the site no
problem however the application will not install and gives the error message
0x8007042b

This error message had very little information on the MS site and other than
some techy jargon giving a very brief unrelated explanation of the error
code.

Would appreciate some advice on where to go next with this.

Thanks

Oh, FYI the error message means the installation was aborted (not by me it
wasn't)which is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!
:) Any help would be really appreciated.

My SP2 installation gave me Media Player 9 already, maybe i could upgrade to
V10 before i tried going to 11 but i dont know where to DL this from. Not
sure it would fix the problem anyway.

0x8007042B means ERROR_PROCESS_ABORTED, but you already knew that. There
was some kind of error and the installation process was aborted.

Delete wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe and try downloading it again, maybe it
was corrupt.

Thanks Wesley,

Tried that but still a no go.

Eventually i reinstalled windows (pre updates) from a ghost image and STILL
didnt work, so i reinstallled the ghost again and ran the Autopatcher utility
from autopatcher.com instead of using the MS site and it worked a treat.

Still not sure what happened but my problem is ended now.

2.Media Player 11 & Media Center player run too fast

Hi,

I have XP Media Center on a Dell XPS 400 with a two tuner ATI Radeon X600
256MB HyperMemory and Radeon X600 256MB HyperMemory Secondary video card with
Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCII (23xxx) (Tuner 1) and (Tuner 2) sound card.

Both media players (MP 11 & Media Center) have a recurring tendency to play
videos 2-3 times faster than normal. After 1-2 restarts of the computer, it
often returns to normal, but doesn't last long. Very soon both players start
playing videos way too fast. There is also no audio when this happens. Many
others have trouble with accelerated sound, but I have no sound. Just a
super fast video playback no matter the source (DVD, MPEG, WMV, FLV, AVI
file, youtube videos, ect.) Adjusting the Hardware Acceleration tab does
nothing. What is going on? How do I fix this problem so it doesn't happen
anymore? Very frustrating!

5.Windows Media Player 11 will not adapt video to Media Player windo

Hello there,

I switched to Windows Media Player 11 quite a while back on Windows XP
Professional. Now what i notice is that the player will not longer
automatically adapt the played video file to the size of the Media Player
window.
I double checked to see if the option is on.
When i minimize or maximize the player window once it will adapt but it
should do so instantly upon startup/opening just like Windows Media Player 10
did.

Is this a bug or something else preventing it from working?
