  • 1. Limiting RAM
    I have a need to limit the amount of RAM Windows XP is using for a particular program. This program uses DAO as a component and it will not work when there is more than 1000MB of RAM. Any thoughts? I know this is configurable in Citrix in a registry entry, but wonder if anyone knows a way to do this in XP? Thanks. -- Nick XXXX@XXXXX.COM

This will check your hardware and software for potential problems. Be sure all your drivers are up to date, check the device manufacturer's web sites for recent updates, especially for you graphics card and soundcard as well as any devices attached to the system, printers, scanners, zip drives, etc. Check event log for errors that appear to correspond to the time when the error took place. Go to Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for the errors as described, if you find any, double click, the information contained within may give a clue as to the source of the issue.

    My friend is having this particular problem? with his XP Pro. Apparently what is happening is that when he opens Excel documents during the day to edit them (or Word docs, etc) it puts them under the My Computer folder (or somewhere in there) in the History Folder. He is on a small network and uses XP Pro (not sure if the network setup has anything to do with it). If anyone knows any way to have History not save a list of opened documents in the History Folder, I will pass it along. Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me. That option was already checked. I
unchecked it and checked it once more. OK'd the dialog to use the "new"
setting, but I still have the same behaviour.

Do you have a sample registry key(s) that show how this area of the
shell should be configured?

Hi Donovan,

See if this helps:

Go to Start/Run and type in:  regsvr32 /i shell32

If not run the edit on line 209:

Thanks Kel, running RegSvr32 did the trick. What exactly did it do?
(S'pose I should ask that first before running things *grin*)

You are welcome and yes I guess you should have, but not many do. :o)

It resets large parts of the registry back to factory conditions. This is
how windows installs itself. It's how the original entry was placed into the
registry. Setup does a regsvr32 /i shell32.

1.Double click right mouse not a double click

Hi,
 problem with any PS2 mice in Windows XP Pro.
 If I right click on any web page(say Google)then I either get a blank
 popup(like a menu)and then MSN homepage opens or if I right click(to
 highlight and then copy)a link on any web page then it does the same
 thing. If right clicking to highlight a link on Google the it opend
the google page all over asgain.
How can I disable what seems to be double clicking for the right mouse
 button?
 All I want is normal single click for the right mouse button and
 normal double click for left button.
 It seems like windows sees a single right click as a double.

Seems like I found the reason.
It is IE6 causing it to happen.
If I use Opera instead of IE6 then it does not happen.

2.Double Click event caught every other double click

I'm using wxGTK-2.7.0. I'm trying to catch doubleclick events on a
wxCheckListBox:
...
...
EVT_LISTBOX_DCLICK(wxID_ANY, PCC_wxCheckListBox::OnDClicked)
...
...
void PCC_wxCheckListBox::OnDClicked(wxCommandEvent &event)
{
    cerr << "Caught dclick event for index " << event.GetSelection() <<
endl;
}

But when running my program my output is showing only every other time
that I double click. Anyone have any ideas?

3.Double click to rename folders in XP Explorer

I have just installed Windows XP for the first time. I can't find
anywhere to set Explorer so you can rename folders by double clicking
them. By default it seems folder names are underlined and single
clicking on them expands subfolders. You can still double click on files
to rename them. This behavior is different from Windows 2000, and even
Windows Server 2003, where you can double click folder names to rename
them in exactly the same way you can with files. There must be a setting
somewhere to change this.

4.Double click on a folder opens Search window in Windows Explorer instead of Open

Double click on a folder opens Search window in Windows Explorer

Double click on a folder in Windows Explorer always opened the folder. Now
this opens Search window. And in accordance the Search position is in bold
in the file menu instead of Open. But click on Open works properly. (I have
WinXP+SP2.)
How can I restore this setting?
Thank you
