  • 3. Shortcut: R-click menu has no "Properties" selection
When I installed an ancient kids game (for win 3.1.1 / 95) it installed properly, and works, but I cannot get properties from the start menu shortcut. It's just not there, and it *is* a shortcut. Is there something I can do to do this, perhaps with one of the windows resource kit tools? I want to set the shortcut to the .exe to run in win95 compatibility mode, and in 640x480. The compatibility mode for this particular game is not that important it seems (this is a lucky one that runs as is), but I would like it in lower res because all it displayes is 640x480 graphics. • 4. blank screen and blinking
Hi, This is the first time I am using a forum to try to fix my XP problem. I was running a DVD when the picture froze. I close the DVD, restarted the DVD by popping it in and out. The movie was good for 10 minutes and it froze again. This time I could shut it down. I finally did a hard shut down. After that, I removed my DVD and try restarting. I gave me a blank screen with a blinking cursor. My keyboard, mouse can't control anything. I tried to use my recovery disc and the PC is not reading it. What's happening. How can I fix this? Printer Driver keeps going offline

Postby Zardoz » Thu, 01 Jan 2004 06:48:02 GMT

My printer's driver seems be set at " offline " at times.

I turn the computer off when not in use, & I don't think the setting
goes to "offline" while the computer is on, only if I turn the
computer off.

& I cannot say if it always happens when the computer is turned off
either.

It should always say " ready " right?

It's not a real big deal, as I can always access the control panel &
set it to " ready ", but it is a pain in the butt, especially of I am
on the Interent & want to print something.

I don't think it matters, but it is a Brother MFC 5100C USB driver.
(Could it be the driver's fault somehow?)

Ok. Never mind. The problem was that I had 3 drivers under "Printers
& Faxes" (inside control panet). 2 copies of the printer "MFC 5100C"
driver, & one copy of "PC-Fax". I deleted the extra copy.

The only other little problem, just a little hassle really, is that
when I go to print something, the PC-Fax driver is always default (set
to "ready" if I check it inside of "Printers & Faxes", while the 5100C
driver doesn't say " ready ", but it doesn't say " offline " either)..

So, anyway, I have to change the driver & click on the 5100 C driver
before every printing episode (after pressing " print " that is). I
wonder if I even need this PC-Fax software, because I suppose the Fax
part of the MFC works without the Computer even being on.

1.Printer keeps going offline

I have 2 networked computers, one XP and one Vista, sharing a printer through
a wireless router. The printer is always online with the XP, but regularly
drops offline with the Vista. I've found no way to get the printer back
online execpt to reinstall it. How can I prevent this, or at least to get the
printer back online without reinstalling?

2.Printer Keeps Going Offline

I have an HP OfficeJet 7210 All-In-One Printer connected to my router
It has always worked fine.

I recently replaced my old XP laptop with a new laptop running Vista
Home 32 bit and since that time, I have an issue with the printer
constantly going "offline" at seeming random times.

When this occurs, if I attempt to print anything, it shows as "pending"
in the print que but does not print until the laptop is rebooted.

I thought it may have something to do with the laptop going into sleep
mode (as I saw others post about that problem), however, that is not the
case with mine ---this morning, I printed a document, then a few minutes
later, attempted to print another one and the printer was now "offline".

Any ideas?

3.A working printer keeps going offline

We have a networked Brother printer that can be accessed and printed
to by anyone and everything except via the terminal server. It says
offline and when we try to bring it online it says Operation could not
be completed.

All other printers are just fine, and the web interface to the printer
says everything is goow. Help!

Please. It's the owners printer.

4.Printers keep going offline for no reason

All 4 of the printers in our offline on the network keep going offline.
Sometimes if we delete all items in the queue and recycle the power they
come back online. It is a completely random occurrence, I have checked the
network cables, I can ping the printers, but sometimes they bring themselves
back online, other times they don't! They are all different brands or
models but it happens to any of them. Three are over five years old and
never had this problem until recently.

What else can I check?

5.Printers keep going offline

We have three printers on our network that are shared by everyone. They are
different brands and different ages.
Randomly any one of them will stop printing and if you look at the
properties it will say that printer is offline. Sometimes removing
everything from the print queue and restarting it works. Sometimes you have
to power if off completely. Sometimes nothing works. The print spooler on
the server and PC never seems to be stopped, and stopping and starting it
doesn't change anything.
But, a few hours, or days later, all of a sudden it is online again as
though nothing happened. This happens at least once a week, to a random
printer.

What would cause this?
