  • 1. XP not refreshing CD contents in Windows Explorer
Hi NB Previously posted to windowsxp.hardware - no reply received. I have a problem with Windows Explorer not refreshing the contents of a CD or DVD drive when I remove the CD. Pressing F5 does not help - XP just remembers the previous CD name and files. Sometimes it will clear itself after a few attempts, otherwise it requires a reboot. I have the same problem on an XP home system too. Anyone out there able to help? System Windows XP Pro, fully updated; DirectX 9; Media Player 9; IE 6 Norton System Works 2002 Norton Internet Security 2003 & Antivirus 2003 Nero 6 Office XP Please reply to newsgroup as e-mails will be automatically deleted Thanks in advance LS
  • 2. Still slow - due to driver problems
This have been running fine until I plug in the Kyocera 2235. Then if I try to (re-)install drivers particularly the modem driver and do a diagnose the machine virtually hangs. I unplug the cable from the USB port and I'm back in action. Tested on other PC to confirm the cable and 'phone are OK. Short of re-installing windows what are the options - The driver doesn't uninstall.
  • 3. XP Home to Pro Upgrade Hangs
When upgrading my Emachine W2260 from the pre-installed XP Home to XP Pro, it hangs at the second restart, the first time the XP Pro logo appears. The PC is capable of running Pro, because when I choose the install option instead of upgrade it works fine. I do, however, lose all the preinstalled software and drivers. Emachines won't help me, and the preinstalled software is only available if I use the restore disks which also reinstall XP Home. I would appreciate any help you can offer.
  • 4. Program list goes outside monitor boundary
I just did an install that filled the program list (vertically) on the screen ... and then some! For some strange reason, it doesn't show the new program ... it goes off the screen. I was able to re-sort the list to see the new install, but now, something else runs off the screen. I can see all edges of windows on the monitor, so it's not my monitor display configuration. Any ideas on how to fix this. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Diana

blank cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r, and dvd-rw unrecognizable in drive

Postby ZGViNDc » Sun, 12 Aug 2007 02:54:04 GMT

All of a sudden my pc won't recognize a blank cd or dvd, yet it will
recognize a software cd or any that I've already recorded on. Light will
blink as if it's trying to read it, then quits. My pc actually read a blank
cd today and let me burn photos on it, first time in a month, put another cd
in, and nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled cd drive, I've done
everything listed on Troubleshooting Reading CD discs. I recovered my pc, but
not to factory condition, just to point of uninstalling all
non-factory-installed software programs. I've also tried different brands and
speeds of the cds with no luck. Any suggestions?

3.DVD-RW Drive Shows up as DVD-RW and CD-Drive in Windows Explor

Andy,

Thanks, but it didn't work. I deleted the E: and G: drives as instructed
and rebooted. However, the G: drive came back.

4.DVD-RW Drive Shows up as DVD-RW and CD-Drive in Windows Explorer

I have a weird situation going on with my DVD-RW drive. I have a Sony
DRU-710A DVD-RW drive installed on my machine with no other optical drives
installed. For the last couple of weeks, the drive has been showing up twice
in Windows Explorer with two different drive letters. It shows up as drive
as a DVD-RW (Drive E:) and as a CD-ROM (Drive G:).

I have made sure that I am running the latest firmware version of the drive
and I have not made any changes to the system or installed any new software.
Sony's support could not provide any useful information.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this issue? I am running
Windows XP Home with SP2 installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

5.DVD RW doesn't recognise ANY blank CD-R or CD-RW discs

I recently installed DVD Region + CSS Free.
Since this time, my DVDRW can still read Cds and DVDs but as soon as I want
to burn data onto a blank disc, it comes up with the message, "There is no
disc in the drive. Please insert a writable CD into drive E:\"
I have tried disabling the DVD Region+CSS Free software but this doesn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
