Cannot Run Two Device Installations You can install only one device at a a time. ANother device installation is underway, when it is finished you can try this wizard again. Why do I get this message? It keeps my plug n' play from functioning properly. I can't install printer, scanners, mice, etc... Device manager has no troubled devices in it. I have a Compaq notebook running XP Pro that's been stable for some time... it's not set to hibernate, but it is set to shut off the display (10 minutes), disk drive (1/2 hour), and suspend (1 hour)... What has been happening periodically, is that after several hours of non-use (still plugged into AC power), I return to the machine... the screen is black and the only error is that it's unable to find the operating system... Shut off the power completely and it reboots ok, but I don't know what could be causing it to even look for the OS while it's suspended... ?? The device is NOT on a network, dsl, or cable... internet via dial up only... Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful... thanks... tt

1.DVD drive recognized as "CD Drive" when blank DVD+R inserted

2.DVD drive changes to "CD drive" when dvd is inserted

I have a P4 2.8 w/1.25 gig and am running XP Home SP2. I have a
Plextor DVD ram drive (800a). At my office I have a similar setup
running XP Pro with Plextor 740a.

I have been ripping DVDs and burning Cd's for years using Nero.

A month or two ago, my DVD-rw drives started to change in "My
Computer" to "CD Drive" when I inserted a blank DVD.

I have tired different drives (the 800 is brand new) and different
PC's. I even tested a new PC at my office with XP PRO and a different
DVD RW drive with the same result.

I have also tired 4 brands of DVDs.

It really seems that this is an XP issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

3.Drive acts as DVD drive for cd and CD Drive for dvd off and on

My disk drive says all my drivers are up to date, so that's not the problem.
I have a brand new Toshiba satellite notebook and I'm running Vista Home
Premium. Every so often when I put in a cd-rw to copy some files, only the D:
drive - the DVD burner shows and it formats as a DVD. Vice versa with the
DVD-RW: it shows only the E: drive - the CD-RW drive. I can't figure out how
to tell this computer which media it's supposed to be recognizing. Can
someone help??

4.blank cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r, and dvd-rw unrecognizable in drive

All of a sudden my pc won't recognize a blank cd or dvd, yet it will
recognize a software cd or any that I've already recorded on. Light will
blink as if it's trying to read it, then quits. My pc actually read a blank
cd today and let me burn photos on it, first time in a month, put another cd
in, and nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled cd drive, I've done
everything listed on Troubleshooting Reading CD discs. I recovered my pc, but
not to factory condition, just to point of uninstalling all
non-factory-installed software programs. I've also tried different brands and
speeds of the cds with no luck. Any suggestions?

5.No dialog box when blank CD/DVD inserted into drive

Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate. Two DVD burners which each work fine reading
and writing discs using third party software such as Ulead VideoStudio 10+.
However, when I insert a blank disc in order to copy files using Windows
built-in capability, no dialog box appears (can't select Live vs Mastered,
etc) and Vista acts as if the drives aren't burners. (drag and drop onto the
discs is not allowed)

Any suggestions?
