DVD-RW drive won't detect a DVD-RW Disc

Postby Brandon » Fri, 29 Jul 2005 08:55:45 GMT

efore I start, I should tell you all that I am re-posting this with all of
the original correspondence at the end.

I've done as described, put both drives back into their proper place on the
tape and into the proper order (DVD-RW - master, DVD-ROM - slave). On a
hunch, I decided to pop in a DVD-R disc, and this was detected just fine. I
also put in a DVD-RW disc, but it was not detected. Seeing as how I have
data I want to append to an old DVD-RW disc, is there anything left to do?

Original correspondence follows:

id you mention your burning software that you use? You may need to update
that software and the firmware for the drive and or drivers if they apply for
your drive from the drives OEM's web site..

Did you run the Nero info tool to know the ID string and firmware ver for
the DVD-RW drive in question?

firmware of an SD-R5372 DVD-Recorder from any TU** version to version TU55.

ust installed it and tried a DVD-RW disc, still nothing different.

On a side note, I practically had myself a heart attack when the computer
didn't completely boot in to Windows 2 times after installing this and
rebooting because I figured a virus was at work. Turns out it was a Generic
Win32 Services error, or something to that effect. So, in other words,
nothing bad happened, and you can even ignore this unless you think it may
be a symtpom of something...

X speed of the DVD-RW media your trying to burn to 6x-8x ? Did you run an av
scan on the ZIP file first..

k, is this the site for your sonic record software? Just look and see for
now..

Did you try and update it, the burning software prior to the firmware update?

k, on a hunch I decided to try a different blank DVD-RW and it has no
problem with it what-so-ever. even after burning data on it, I can still do
it, no problem. The same works with DVD-R's. I've got no direct idea why
this happens like this, but I think that this problem is solved.

1.DVD-RW won't detect a writable DVD-RW

For some reason, my DVD-RW drive(s) (I've bought more since this started to
happen) will no longer detect writable DVDs or CDs. I installed a new
DVD-RW burner earlier, about 30 minutes ago actually, and when I inserted a
blank DVD-RW, the drive blinked several times and then just stayed lit. I'm
fairly certain that this is a Windows problem instead of a drive problem.
Can anyone help me with this?

2.DVD-RW won't read DVD-R or DVD-RW when I insert either

My DVD-RW drive will not read either DVD-R or DVD-RW when I insert them. A
message comes up that says "Please insert disk into Drive D:." Of course, I
have already inserted a disk.

That same drive will read CDs and play computer games. It just won't read
the recordable ones. Please help!!

Thanks,
DavidP

3.DVD RW Drive Won't Recognize DVD+R Disc

I have a DVD-RW drive that will recognize CD-R and commercial DVDs
(i.e. movies) but will not recognize DVD+R discs even though they were
burned on that drive. These are data DVDs that I used for backup.
When I put a DVD in, nothing happens but in Windows Explorer the icon
for that drive (F:) turns from a DVD-RW into a CD-RW but still won't
read the disc. I have tried several discs, including blank ones and
it won't respond. Nero is the program that was used to burn the
DVDs.

I have service pack 2. My OS had to be reinstalled a few months ago
due to a virus. Don't know if that has anything to do with it. I
don't look at these discs often or burn discs often so I'm not sure
when this started happening. The drive is a Sony DVD RW DRU 810A.

Help???

Thanks.

5.Sata dvd-rw and Ide dvd-rw not recognising certain discs

Hello all, I am hoping some one can give me a solution to a rather annoying
problem I am having. I have just upgraded my OS to Vista Home Premium x64.
 I am runnin 4 HDD's, 2 Sata and 2 Ide
 and have a Lite-on DVDRW LH-20A1 Sata and a Pioneer DVd-RW DVR-107D Ide
(this is installed via a Pluscom Ide to Sata converter by Raid controller and
shows up as a SCSI)
Since the upgrade, both of my ROM drives will not recognise the Datawrite
DVD-R Classic White discs that I have used on hundreds of occasssions with no
problems before the upgrade, but will recognise my Datawrite DVD-R Yellow
discs as well as other CD discs.
I have ran the latest Firmware for the drives and am still getting the same
problem.
Has anyone else come across this problem and does anyone have a solution
please? I would be most thankfull.
P.S. I have heard something about changing Upper and Lower Filters in the
registry but don't know how to go about this.
