  • 2. Installer keeps popping up
I am a not computer tech guy, so please use small words in your answers! Windows installer keeps popping up on me, then just seems to do nothing at all. Sometime 3 or 4 Installer windows will open, and go away eventually, but it takes a long time before they go away. I am not sure how to even check and see which Installer version I have, and it just started happening in the last 2 weeks or so. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  • 3. How to read computer name and compare it?
I want to read the name of the local computer and do something depending from the result. In other words I want to do something like this: find "mycom234" %SYSTEMVARIABLEWHICHCONTAINSCOMPNAME% >nul if %errorlevel%==0 ( Echo I am on a computer whose name contains "mycom234" ) else ( Echo I am on a computer whose name contains NOT "mycom234") However which system variable contains the computer name? How do I do this otherwise? Matt
  • 4. xp and hard drives
I am transferring to another tower, tower1 has xp on its C drive. tower 2 has xp on its C drive. Can I piggy back the drive from tower 1 to tower 2 and then delete xp from no 1 C drive after the transfer so that I can then use it (no 1) for storage. Will this have any effect on C drive no 2? Hope this makes sense.
  • 5. CA Simply Money won't install
I am trying to install a financial program, CA Simply Money, on a computer that has a fresh install of XP home. I know there is nothing wrong with the installation disk which is the original installation floppy disk, purchased long ago. I have this program installed on a very old 386 computer, and want to transfer my records into the newer computer, but apparently XP won't accept the installation. An error message appears, but gives no other information. The original manual that came with the installation disk mentions potential conflicts with anti-virus programs, but I have no anti-virus program installed on the newer machine, as it is not online and is a clean install of XP.

Joe,
Thanks for trying...yes I did check the settings and they are fine. Also,
it is not Outlook's problem because the problem exists in Incredimail
(another email client) as well.
Anyone with any other ideas??

Thanks,
Mz. Jazz

1.Cannot send or receive email in Outlook or any non-web email clien

Hi,

This is maddening. On 6/9 at 2:11 pm I received my last email in Outlook. I
now get error messages (for all of my email addresses which all come from the
same ISP)saying "connection was rejected by incoming (and outgoing) mail
server" and cannot send or receive any of my POP3 mail.

I have contacted my ISP who has run tests and said it is not their lines
causing the problem. They advised me to run several anti-malware and spyware
programs, which I did (I even followed a program provided by Major Geeks.com)
and everything (Hijack This, Kill2Me, CWShredder, HS Remover, Stinger AV,
About Buster, Avast AV, Spybot S&&D) all showed my system clean.

I just has a crash a few months ago and lost everything and just finished
getting things back to normal. I really don't want to loseit all again. Any
suggestions? Or, perhaps a way I can reinstall my XP without losing all my
software and files?

I will love anyone who can help me with this!!

Thank you,
Mz. Jazz

3.I receive email but cannot SEND email

I've been working with this program since we got this computer, now the email
won't send. It goes through the motions, but everything stays in the outbox.
Sending a message to myself had the same results. Nothing....

I do have a message there in the outbox that is "blank" and I cannot remove.
"An unknown error has occured" I cannot move it, delete it, send it or
anything....

I've had a rash of these phantom emails lately, some stuck in limbo in the
inbox. Are they causing this?

Please someone help before I send this computer out some window!
