Hello Group, Thanks in advance for your help. My problem is this: We have a VPN established between two Netopia R910 routers and want to have people on either end print to printers that are on the network at the other end of the connection. Can ping the printers, gateways, etc. Example 10.192.1.1 (gateway) 10.192.1.99 (printer) Router A 10.192.2.1 (gateway) 10.192.2.199 (printer) Router B thanks again. erle

When attempting to access some web sites, I receive an error message stating the following: "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, this page may not display properly." I fear that I cannot interact with my site because of this problem. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this problem, please email me.

I am having trouble with a dialup connection trying to access HTTPS address's. When try to access the "page cannot be displayed" is given. All other access is fine. Windows firewall was running but have disabled. No other firewall program is operating/installed Checked nw firewall log and I can see that thses ICMP packets are actually getting dropped. Have disabled the firewall yet same problem occurs. Have added this machine to a LAN and shared the internet connection. Other machine can access HTTPS sites without a problem via the LAN using the problem machine's dial up connection. Any ides's to what would be causing the packets to drop? .
  • 4. Wireless network access permissions
Hi, I am trying to set up a home wireless network between my desktop pc and my laptop. I have successfully connected them using a crossover cable (i.e. LAN) without any problems, file sharing is fine. When I set up my wireless network, the two computers connect (it says so in the system tray icon), but when I try to access one or the other, I get an error saying I do not have permission to access this network resource. Any ideas? Thanks
  • 5. Cannot stop Remote Access Connection Manager
Hey to all, does anybody know how to stop Remote Access Connection Manager? I always get the following message: "Could not stop the Remote Access Connection Manager service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator" I already tried to stop the Telephony service too, but without any success. The Remote Access Connection Manager depends on the Telephony service but there I get an error 1053. Has anybody an idea Meinhard

Password-protecting shares in XP Home

I can't add a password to shared folders in Windows XP Home Edition. I want to be able to access my hard disk remotely, yet I do not want it open to everyone. Why was this feature removed in XP Home when it was available in previous versions (even the home ones like 95, 98, and ME)?

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Windows XP was developed from Windows NT and 2000, which have never
had passwords for shared folders.

Here are some options for safe, password-protected remote access to
your computer:

1. Create an incoming VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection on your
computer.

2. Run remote control software like VNC or PCAnywhere.

I do not want to have to configure anything on the other computers, just
connect to my computer from there by going into Network Neighborhood/My
Network Places.

Oh, and I figured out how to access Advanced File Sharing (thru Safe Mode),
so how do I set it so only certain computers can access it? (if that is
best way)

1.XP Home PCs connecting to password protected 98SE shares

I have a network of 5 PCs, 3 Windows XP Home PCs and 2 Windows 98SE PCs
and use TCP/IP protocol for file sharing.

Until last week all of my XP Home PCs were able to connect to password
protected shares on my 98SE PCs, but now the passwords are no longer
being accepted when trying to log in to them, however both 98SE PCs can
still log in to the password protected shares on each other

Upon disabling password protection the XP Home PCs can access them.

Any suggestions why this is happening now?

2.Access to Password Protected XP Pro Share from 2K Client upgraded to XP Pro

I've got a mix of machines, some with a clean XP Pro
install, and some with Win2K upgraded to XP Pro. All
machines are in the same workgroup and simple file
sharing has been turned off on all machines.

I've set up a shared folder on one of the clean XP Pro
machines and set restrictive permissions on the share.

When I attempt to access the share (either open the share
from My Network Places or Map a Network Drive) from
another machine with a clean XP Pro install, I get
prompted for a user name and password, as I should, and
everything works fine.

When I attempt to access the share from a machine that's
been upgraded to XP Pro from Win 2K, I get access denied
messages without ever being asked for a name or
password. This is consistent across the 2K upgrade
machines.

Yes, the obvious solution would be to wipe the upgraded
machines and do clean XP installs -- unfortunately that
would require a ton of work reloading apps and such --
and the users wouldn't stand for it.

Anybody else ever run into this? If so, has anybody
found a fix?

Thanks.

3.Password protected Share does not require password after first log

Ok, I know that Windows (XP Pro SP2) stores Network share passwords in
cache/memory during the duration of the users session until they logout. But
is this explained anywhere on Microsoft's website as a normal behavior of the
Operating System? I've found an article that pertains to Windows 95, but not
XP :(

I need to "Prove" to one of my customers that this is normal behavior of the
Operating System.

4.access password protected win98 share from winxp box with password different from my login

Good afternoon all,

I need to access a password protected win98 share from winxp box with a
password that's different from my winxp login. Can someone let me know
how to set this up?

Windows XP used to ask me for the password for this share when I'd
connect. This had been working fine until I needed set up remote
dektop which forced me to set a login password. Now that I've password
protected my xp login it seems this password is given to the w98 share
by default with no way to overide, which I could find.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look into this for me.

Best regards,
Michael

5.Windows XP and connecting to Windows 98 password protected shares

I have had a problem lately trying to connect to Windows 98 Password
Protected shares. They do not specify a username, and using Guest is not
working. I can not change the Windows 98, nor the method for their sharing,
so I must overcome the problem as is.

Windows 2000 workstations can still connect fine, but the XP express
connecting with the Guest account with the ability to change the username
grayed out.

I don't know if this could be group policy, it is affecting all the Win XP
boxes, but I would hope that it would affect the Windows 2000 boxes the same,
but it doesn't...anyone have any ideas?
