  • 1. Servers cannot be accessed
I'm using XP SP2, and AVG cannot update, Firefox cannot access any website, and basically any program except Opera that tries to access a server or the internet is being blocked. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
  • 2. Access DVR over the Internet
I am new to networking, but have to set up a DVR in an office and configure it so the owner can access it from his home. The DVR client software accepts an IP address and a Port number to connect to the DVR. The DVR will be connected to a router, the only PC in the office runs 2000 Pro and cannot be upgraded to XP is there anyway to do it with this setup ? If we get a static IP address can I use the current Cable Modem/Router combo or will I need a separate setup ? I was thinking the cheapest and easiest might be to istall another PC with XP Pro and the DVR client software and then use Remote Desktop to connect over the Internet Any and all ideas welcome TIA ThoraD
  • 3. network basic q's
I would like to ask some people some basic stuff about networks . I have winxp 2.0ghz and another similar oc with a wireless connection off a router. q)1 pc ha sa UTP cable and I believe it is ethernet cat3 10/100 baseT. Now the cat3 is the type of cable, the ethernet is the protocol it uses to send packets of information, and 10/100baseT is the cable capability which is a max of 10mbs on the net to 100mbs on a non tcp/ip Lan. Correct me if I am wrong with my information? q) routers thesedays have made switches and hubs redundant for a Lan?

Two NICs / Two Networks / One Machine

Postby Vi4 » Wed, 03 Mar 2004 07:36:06 GMT

Here's the situation: I have both DSL (pokey 800k) and Cable (2500k, usually) broadband modems in my SOHO. I'd like to have both of these hooked up, not to run in a "Dual WAN" mode, but in an "either/or" mode

Is this possible

In the Network Connections folder:

1. Right click and Enable the connection that you want to use.
2. Right click and Disable the connection that you don't want to use.

1.Is it possible to have one computer(win xp) connected to two networks using two nics

Currently I have a netgear wireless lan and am connected with a USB
wirless device. Purchased another wireless router and configure the ip
address to be 192.178.0.1 so if differs from the other(192.168.0.1).
Connected the above computer to it via patch cable. All seem to freeze
when I explore network neighbor hood or get a not authorized message.
Second router is to connect the above computer to others in the same
room.

Thanks for any suggestions(reference material urls)

2.Two NICS, Two IP Addresses - ONE SERVER NAME

Setup - Internet monitoring system setup w/ two NICS each has a seperate IP
address (both in same subnet). Only one has default gateway setup - problem
is that it's automatically getting registered in DNS w/ two IP addresses for
same name which is causing sporradic problems. Any ideas on how to configure
this in DNS to eliminate the DNS confusion?

Thanks in advance!

3.two dsl connections, two routers, dual nics on linux box , want to run two websites

Hello,

I have two dsl connections, with one public ip on each. I have a linux
box with two nic cards.

xx.xx.xx.xx(WAN)---ROUTER(LAN23.123.45.110) ---- MYLINUX
(23.123.45.107) eth1
yy.yy.yy.yy(WAN)---ROUTER(LAN192.182.1.1) ---- MYLINUX
(192.168.1.100) eth0

I have apache listening on both interfaces.

Problem:

1. How do I make the packets route back to the gateway from which they
originate.

Currently the gateway marked as "default" is able to serve content
from the apache. The other one cannot.

I tried adding static routes, but that didn't work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Jay

4.Two NICs in one machine and same LAN?

Hi,
If I setup two NICs using 10.1.1.1/24 and 10.1.1.2/24 addresses in one
machine, what could be happen? Can DNS handle this? Will it work in the
network?
Thanks,
Roger

5.Running two NICs for failover in one machine

Hi!

I have been given the information that it is neccessary to run Windows 2000
Advanced Server in order to run two NICs in one server for failover purposes.

Is this true?

If it is NOT true, what are the major differences between Win2K Server and
Advanced Server?

Thanks
Cheers
Rob
